Joanna’s posterous

The only thing better than cover songs...

ARE REMIXES.

True story.

I heard this one on the radio the other day. Hadn't heard of the DJ before, Boys Noize. He's German. And effin awesome. He combined my love of indie and electronic and has produced one of my top played songs as of late. In this song he remixes Feist's My Moon, My Man. You all know how I love to shake my booty. The album that this track is found on,Oi Oi Oi, provides lots of opportunity to do just that. You should check it out... and maybe friend him on MySpace. This, my friends, is what you call the good shit.

Everyday things

I haven't updated about anything going on lately. I need to. Then a music post because I have so much I need to share. A ton, really.

Over spring break back in March I had the goal of applying to 20 jobs a day. Needless to say that didn't happen. Instead of the 100... only 50 happened. That's still a lot. I'm just now starting to hear back from them. One of the jobs I applied to led to someone seeing my resume and then sharing it with someone who immediately contacted me, my references, and set up an interview. This position was with NASA. I know it's now down to me and one other person. I should be hearing from them this week. I interviewed last Friday for another position with an engineering firm. I think I'm a good match with what they're looking for and I have a strong resume so I guess we'll see how that goes. I think that job would be more fun than the one with NASA. It'd definitely utilize my degree more.

I'm really starting to feel the pressure of finishing this last year. There's about a month of school left. It's been tough because there's been a lot going on with me mentally. I can tell I'm more scatter brained than normal just by the state of disarray my room is in. I also forget dishes and other crap frequently. I'm working on it. Just need to get this stuff done and then a new phase of life begins.

These past couple of weekends I got to spend some good time with my family. Last weekend my cousin Scott got married. The wedding was beautiful. It was freeeeezing as the wedding was outside and on the water. It was overcast and kind of dreary all day but was still really beautiful. It was great seeing all of my family together and dancing with them. I had a great day. The weekend before was Karen's (Scott's fiance) bachelorette party. That was a good time and was another opportunity to spend some quality time with my girl cousins and Karen.

Here's to hoping these next couple of weeks go smoothly and things work out the way I'd like them to.

This ship is shipping on

I have this horrible habit... of seeking out information and things that I know will hurt me. I have this insatiable curiosity when it comes to wanting to know things I don't know. Things I shouldn't know. I have to confirm my suspicions. Have to. It's like an itch or... who knows. A sickness, really. It's a habit I have decided needs to be broken today. I'm usually pretty good when I make decisions such as this one. When I decide to break a habit FOR REAL it gets broken.

I'm bringing this up because tonight I confirmed a suspicion I've had for well over a month now. It was a suspicion that didn't need confirming and it was one that really did ruin my night. But why? I already kind of knew it. Felt it.

Lesson learned. I'm letting go. For serious. And here's a song to commemorate the moment. It's a song I've used for these types of situations many times before. It's sad, beautiful, and completely true. Finally.

Beat boxing just got even cooler

In case you didn't think the beat boxing harmonica player could be
topped... I just found this while looking around YouTube.

Doesn't hurt that Inspector Gadget was pretty much my favvvvvorite

Sha sha, baby

Last Thursday I was lucky enough to go see Ben Kweller. It was a great show. He's great on stage... so incredibly entertaining. He was always participating with the audience. He even took a shot of Jager that someone from the crowd bought him. He played a pretty long set. It could've been longer... he's just got so much music to choose from. That makes it hard to share a song I like from him. There are just so many I love. His albums are among some of my favorite. His self titled and Sha Sha are well rounded, and loaded with amazing song after amazing song. I'm pretty sure he's only got one song I barely don't like. Even his olllld self-recorded stuff is great. I guess I'll share a couple of my favs.

I'll start with a song from Sha Sha, Wasted and Ready. Good tune. Tough decision. I almost want to choose Falling as my favorite song from that album... especially after seeing it and singing along to it live. Next is Thirteen from his self titled. This song might always remind me of my last ex. At the show when he played the song, he sat alone on the stage at his piano under a couple of white lights. It was movingly beautiful. Lastly, I'll share a track from his newest album Changing Horses. The song is called Fight. His most recent album is much more folky/country/bluesy. It suits him. And I love the stuff. The only reason I'm not a fan of country music stems from the fact that I hate how most country singers sing. It's that twang. Ben doesn't twang. He sings. This song was part of his encore and it was amazing. My favorite line from the song has to be:

Playing every single card that's dealt to me
You know some days are aces and some days are faces.
Well... some days are twos and threes.

Permanence

I guess tattoos remind most people of permanence. They kind of remind me that I'm not permanent. Me. Myself. Eventually these tattoos won't exist. I'll be worm food. It's best to enjoy life while you're living it. I choose to live mine covered in beautiful art. I'm really thinking of this most recent one as a painting. Talking and thinking about it yesterday... it was compared to an oil painting. When you paint with oils you have to wait for one color to dry before working on the next. My back will take at least three or four sittings. Maybe more. It depends on how long I can go for. This outline took four hours. It wasn't too bad. There were a couple spots that were pretty unpleasant. Up around my neck was pretty brutal. Anytime the needle was on my spine I had to remind myself to keep taking deep breaths. What was especially weird was that my lower back/side area (basically my love handles) tickled like a MO FO. Which isn't good. It's not a good feeling to feel like you want to violently twitch while getting tattooed.

I hope you all love my art as much as I do, but if you don't that's fine too. It is, after all, my art.

Sillyness

I'm a goober. I thought this shit was hilarious. My office mate is constructing an office poster with everyone's pictures and their job titles. We post it near the main office so visitors or new workers can check everyone out. We had an old one with old pictures, so he sent out a request for new pictures. I sent him the picture of me playing in mud. My boss sent him a picture that he had taken professionally to be published with his name when he received an award. It's a good picture. The detail on it is ridiculous. Then I got the idea that it would make a great desktop... so I told my office mate to put it as his desktop. Then I took a picture of his computer with the desktop and set that as my desktop. Needless to say... I've been giggling quite a bit this afternoon.

We sent my boss a screen shot of the desktop and he responded "Best. Desktop. Ever."

I love the people I work with.

Photo survey

This took me a while. It was hard to find pictures that went along
with all of these. I still didn't find pictures for all of them. I'll
probably leave those off and then mention them at the end. In order:

1. A picture of you in your room - Modeling my awesome baseball tee
2. A picture of you posing with someone you don't actually like
3.A picture with a former crush - Ex boyfriend, Consta
4. A picture of you very drunk - Dance party of epic proportions
5. A picture of you with a parent or two - The entire side of my mom's family
6. A picture of you on your birthday, or your favourite holiday - My
22nd birthday in a DJ booth
7. The youngest picture you can find of yourself in digital form -
Wasn't even 1 yet I'm sure
8. A picture of you in one of your favourite outfits - That green
sweater has been arrrround. It's in at least two other pictures chosen
for this.
9. A picture of you making a goofy face at the camera - Fish face
10. A picture of you showing off a new haircut. (even if it's an old
haircut now) - Last December when I cut off a foot
12. A picture of something that you love - My amazing niece
13. A picture of you truly being yourself - Laughing so hard I couldn't breathe
14. The most recent picture of you - At the bar on Valentine's Day
with one of my favorites
15. A picture of you being absolutely ridiculous - That's a lot of
chicken nuggets, yo
16.A picture of a time in your life that's over, but you wish it
wasn't - Working at the Coffee Bar my sophomore year of college
17. A picture of a time in your life that's over, and you couldn't be
more happy that it is - Freshmen year... though I'm not necessarily
elated about it being over.
18. A picture with your oldest friend - My cousin Suzanne
19. A picture with your newest friend - My new girlfriends
20. A picture of you when you were anything but happy... even if you
were smiling and did your best to hide it - Freako in the bar putting
me in a headlock against my will
21. A picture of you that you had no idea was being taken - 80's dance
party. Me in all my sexy glory
22. A picture of you when you were a different person than you are now
- Beginning of sophomore year
23. A picture of you in a swimsuit - whether you love it or loathe it
- No loathing here
24. A picture of yourself that you like - Another dance party
25. A picture of yourself that you hate - I think it's more funny than
anything else... but admittedly not a good picture.
26. A picture of you with someone you love - My best friend, Steve
28. A picture that describes how you'd like to spend every day -
Playing in the mud
29. A picture of a time when everything was changing - I was 18 in
this picture. Freaky.
30. A picture that makes your heart hurt - An amazing night. Completely fake.
31. A picture that makes your heart smile - My dad on our road trip
being incredibly goofy with my point and shoot
32. A picture of one of the best nights of your life. (or day) - Cinco
de Mayo my sophomore year. Such a great night.

The two I left off were:
11. A picture you miiiiiight have edited to make yourself more attractive.
27. A picture of how you'd like the world to see you.
I really don't edit most of my pictures. I may crop them some... but
for the most part I'm quite shameless. For those who have looked
through tagged photos of me, you know what I mean. Also, picking a
single picture of how I'd like to world to see me wasn't possible. I'd
love all the pictures I chose to be considered when deciding how you'd
like to view me. I live an interesting life full of amazing people. I
consider myself a dynamic person.

Anyway, these are some of my favorite pictures. All of them make me
smile. Thanks to those who I ganked from. I'm sure I stole some from
Kim, Mandy, and others who have posted pictures of me on Facebook. I'm
happy to have these memories with all of you.

Youtube journey

Youtube has the ability to steal hours of my life. Don't ask me how
this journey began. All that matter is it ended with this:

I got REALLY excited when I saw the video was in Baltimore. I was
hoping he'd be based out of there. Sadly, he's in San Francisco.
Hopefully he comes out this way in the future so I can have the
opportunity to see him live.
