Hip-hop muppets
This is what you call a "night-maker".
I'm going to share TWO songs with you today. One song, two versions rather. The song is called Heartbeats and was originally done by a UK band called The Knife. It's a song I heard a while ago but always kind of remembered liking. I never really looked into the band much further after hearing the song. Then the other day I was driving along and the song Heartbeats as done by Jose Gonzalez came on. I originally thought... oh this is a great 80's remake. What IS this song though? I couldn't remember at all. After downloading the Jose Gonzalez version I did a little research and realized that it was The Knife that he covered. Either way... both versions are really quite good. I don't know if I could pick a favorite. It'd really depend on what type of mood I'm in probably (as most things with me go).
Because I know you'll love both, which do you like better?

As a woman... Sarah Palin literally makes me sick to my stomach. There isn't much need to elaborate on why. All you really need to do is take a look at her views on abortion, birth control, and other women's rights.
Today I saw an avatar on my knitting website (www.ravelry.com). There are tons of forums on there that cater to pretty much every group of people. Even knitters are conservative. Anyway, I saw that a member of one of these groups had a pretty conflicting avatar... so I thought I would share.

Patience is sooo overrated. I have none. Well. In certain situations I have endless patience. In others I have less than none. It's really an interesting dichotomy.
Back to the matter at hand. Music. This song... well this band really... is one of all time favorites. This specific song is one of the better 'love' songs I've heard. Not sad or sappy really. And just when I thought Bloc Party let me down with that new album, it grew on me like mold. Now I love it.
Here's to love. And I guess patience...

For serious? All you people need to go see Mr. Maury Povich.

Facebook has this feature to the right of all the nonsense on your front page. It says "People You May Know". It's usually a collection of people you have a bunch of other people in common with. Normally I say to myself... "Facebook. Yes. Obviously I know these people. There are reasons I am NOT friends with them. However, I'd like to thank you for your concern."
Well today they threw one in there that I only kind of know. He was a kid I had high school freshmen PE with. I only remember him from that very, very large class because I distinctly recall the teacher yelling at him while we were all sitting in the bleachers listening to her talk... for eating his leg scabs.
The things I remember...

You know you're wound a little too tight when three red lights in a row send you into hysterical anger and then tears.
Today started with a looong string of mishaps. Sometimes days like this really get the better of me. It's also raining outside... which normally calms me on days where I don't have to get much done (which is most days) but today it's kind of like icing on the cake. That probably has to do with the fact that I have three classes which means a lot of walking around in the rain. At least when I got here campus wasn't full of people. Walking around with no one else around in the rain was kind of nice. Maybe it's more being by myself was nice.
I don't even know exactly where this stress is coming from. Hopefully I figure it out soon.

I guess I can't be good at everything. Of course I kid because there are lots of things I'm not good at... like walking, multitasking, lying, monopoly (fuck that game), first person shooters (I generally get stuck on a rock or in a corner), not being chubby, and being patient.
Let's go ahead and add cooking to the list. Tonight I managed to not only set off the fire alarm (though that wasn't completely me... or so I'm going to tell myself) AND cut myself. I wasn't even making anything intense. I bought some individually packaged chicken breasts. THAT'S what I cut myself on. Not even chopping the breast up... but removing it from its package. Wow. I think the three pans on the stove with no vent is what did the smoke detector. Despite all that mess it was a good dinner. I even have some left over. But GOD I suck. I guess you should know that it was fettuccine alfredo. The sauce came in a damn jar. I'm surprised I didn't drop it on my foot and have it explode everywhere.
Tomorrow's another day.
You know... for a person who's only real new year's resolution wasn't to lose weight but was to create a recipe box and start cooking more... I FAIL. This is what I aspire to be. (Thank you to Liza for sharing this blog with me.)
So if you know of any good, easy recipes for one person please do share. Nothing too spicy. The main reason I don't cook much is because it's hard to make something for one person CHEAP. I usually feel like there are too many ingredients or it's just too labor intensive when I can seriously just go buy a frozen panini sandwich and just microwave that bitch and be done with it.

I'm reading parts of a book for my senior capstone course, environmental ethics. So far it's incredibly interesting and I'm only on page 7. It's written by a man named Lester Brown and the version I'm reading is called Plan B 3.0. He tries to update and release the book again every so often to keep current with the incredibly fluid situation with climate change and the sustainability of our planet. If you're interested in reading any or all of this you can download the book for free HERE. Click Table of Contents and you can then download the book in sections or all at once as a PDF.
I wanted to share an except with everyone. So far my mouth has dropped open at least two other times, but these couple of paragraphs really put things into perspective for me:
"One of the best examples of this massive market failure can be seen in the United States, where the gasoline pump price in mid-2007 was $3 per gallon. But this price reflects only the cost of discovering the oil, pumping it to the surface, refining it into gasoline, and delivering the gas to service stations. It overlooks the costs of climate change as well as the costs of tax subsidies to the oil insudtry (such as the depletion allowance), the bargeoning military costs of protecting access to oil in the politically unstable Middle East, and the health care costs for treating respiratory illnesses from breathing polluted air.
Based on a study by the International Center for Technology Assessment, these costs now total nearly $12 per gallon ($3.17 per liter) of gasoline burned in the United States. If these were added to the $3 cost of the gasoline itself, motorists would pay $15 a gallon for gas at the pump. In reality, burning gasoline is very costly, but the market tells us it is cheap, thus grossly distorting the structure of the economy."
The paragraph continues a little but that's the important part.
That's some intense stuff right there. I've never even really considered the other costs of burning gas that I don't even really have to directly pay. Clearly, this is something everyone should be aware of and critically think about more often.
